LIBERANDUM was a special creation for the main stage of Sziget Festival in Hungary. In the presence of thousands of spectators, accompanied by live musicians and audiovisual content on a giant screen, an immersive performance that pays tribute to those who have had the courage to leave behind the familiar and move on, fighting for a better world was created on the festival main stage.
Specially invited by Sziget Festival in Hungary to create an action with social impact on their main stage, the Kamchatka company created LIBERANDUM, a massive action, with live music, audiovisual content, live projections on giant screens and the participation of dozens of local volunteers as well as the large audience. Under the sweltering summer heat, 2 zodiacs and a crowd of ‘immigrants’ dripping with water as if they had just come out of the sea, cross the audience on their way to the main stage of the festival. Thus, in the presence of thousands of people, the company came to tell a simple story that illustrates without words the meeting in the middle of the journey of those who have left, of those who will leave and of all those who have tried but never made it. A theatrical moment that in the midst of the madness of this great festival of music and culture left its mark and was dedicated to all those who lost their lives because of our terrible migration policies in the Mediterranean Sea.
Kamchàtka is an artist collective of diverse nationalities and disciplines who’s members first met in Barcelona in 2006. Driven by the same interests and concerns and under the artistic direction of Adrian Schvarzstein, they started training intensely in group improvisation on the streets of Barcelona and researched the subject of immigration. Barcelona… an ideal city for confronting a society laden with contradictions and immersed in profound problems of integration.
Since 2007, they have created their own poetic language around a trilogy on human migration - Kamchàtka (2007), Habitaculum (2010) and Fugit (2014) and have been performing in more than 30 different countries in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
Their latest creation Alter (2021) is a site specific performance which is intimately linked to the landscape and to interaction with the audience.
In 2023 and 2024 Kamchàtka is working on two special site specific projects which take place in the South of France.
The company also offers the Migrar workshop, a unique human experience around the Kamchàtka performance, for the inhabitants of your city, as well as an indoor production with a Symphony Orchestra of your choice - Music for wild beasts - an approach to classical music for all audiences.
